Agri-Migdol
Agri-Migdol is a dry land area that involves various contracts with different land owners, care takers and beneficiaries. The total arable land available consists of 7257 ha. This arable land was not planted for a few years and when parts of it were planted sustainable farming practices were not followed. Soil analysis and corrective measures to restore the soil had to be implemented.
Due to drought conditions over many parts of South Africa and the scattered rainfall patterns over this farm, as well as the short planting window in this area, only a small portion of the available land could be utilised.
Apart from the drought and poor soil due to incorrect farming practices this area also faced other challenges. Many of these farms were deserted and various other problems such as cattle in the fields due to poor repair and maintenance of border fences by the communities were experienced. Portions of the arable land had to be redeveloped and contours had to be corrected to minimise erosion and manage rainwater flow.
