Krokodilkraal
Krokodilkraal Boerdery is a family run business that has been associated with the du Toit family for more than 4 generations. In 1992 Mr Jaco du Toit became permanently involved in the family business alongside his father, Mr Kerneels du Toit, who sadly passed away in 2008. Mr Jaco du Toit was primarily responsible for the operational side of the business, and due to his innovative and creative business skills, Krokodilkraal Boerdery was expanded into a highly successful multidivisional business. After the passing of Mr du Toit senior, Mr Jaco du Toit successfully maintained the family legacy, by expanding the main agricultural business as well as creating a variety of different entities and divisions.
A major goal of the business was to form part of an all-inclusive farming industry built on quality, excellent skills and up to date technology, thereby producing superior products and rendering exceptional services to farmers. This in turn enabled our employees to achieve personal growth in all aspects of their lives and to validate the growth and prosperity of the business as a key role player in the agricultural industry through sustainable farming practices.
The original Irrigation Farms, namely “Krokodilkraal” and “Stok”, form part of the title deeds – portions 3, 4 and 5 of the farm Krokodilkraal 545 KQ, Limpopo District. The combined farms consist of approximately 2000 ha. This includes a total of 170 ha of irrigated land as well as grazing land.
The conventional irrigation systems of both Krokodilkraal and Stok were upgraded in approximately 1996. These upgrades were inevitable due to human damage to crops as the irrigation pipes had to be manually moved twice a day to the next section needing to be irrigated, as per the methodology of conventional irrigation. The loss in yields resulting from this unavoidable human damage, as well as unstable grain prices and very small profit margins, was a huge industry challenge. After thorough studies and careful consideration of the financial implications, the conclusion was to implement the necessary infrastructural developments, as well as corrective measures, in order to maintain sustainable farming practices.
